A weekend of Yorkshire vineyards

Yorkshire’s vineyards sit in two clusters: on the edge of the Wolds in East Yorkshire, and in the Vale of York between York and Harrogate. This plan spends a Friday in the east and a Saturday around York, because that is when the cellar doors are open.

The trip at a glance

  • How long: Two days (Friday and Saturday)
  • Best time: May to September, when every stop below is open; Ryedale’s tours run from April to the end of October.
  • Where to base yourself: York sits between the two clusters and has the best trains, so it works for both nights. Beverley is a good alternative for the first night if you want a shorter drive on day one.
  • Getting there: By car, East Yorkshire is reached on the A1079 and A63, and the Vale of York stops are just off the A59 and A64. By train, York is on the East Coast Main Line; Hammerton station is about 3 miles from Yorkshire Heart and Malton about 7 miles from Ryedale, but there is no public transport to the vineyards themselves, so book taxis both ways. A car, with a non-drinking driver, makes this route much easier.

Opening days and prices checked on each vineyard’s own website in October 2026. See every Yorkshire vineyard for more.

Day 1 (Friday): East Yorkshire

Two family vineyards on the edge of the Wolds, about 35 minutes apart. Go on a Friday: it is the one day both are open.

Morning and early lunch

Laurel Vines

The Laurel Pantry serves breakfast, lunches and cakes Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, most of the year; booking is not required but you can reserve a table by phone, and dogs are welcome. If you come on a Thursday between March and September instead, the wine bar runs 11.30am to 5pm at £6 a head with a drink included, booked ahead. The £40 guided Tasting Trail of six wines with food runs only on dates the vineyard releases, and 2027 dates are still to come.

No need to book

Afternoon

Little Wold Vineyard

The tasting room above South Cave opens Fridays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm, with wine by the glass, coffee, cake and cheese or meat boards; you can request a table online. A 45-minute guided tasting of four wines is £20 and a vineyard tour of about an hour and a half is £27, both on set dates booked ahead, and the tours mostly fall on Sundays. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Book ahead

Food: Lunch at the Laurel Pantry (until 2pm), then a cheese or meat board with a glass at Little Wold’s tasting room.

Getting between them: About 18 miles and 35 minutes between the two; about 45 minutes from South Cave to York.

Day 2 (Saturday): the Vale of York

Three vineyards north and west of York, ending on a vineyard terrace that stays open until 8pm on Saturdays.

Morning (optional)

Ryedale Vineyards

Ryedale’s tours and tastings run on most Fridays and Saturdays from spring to the end of October, booked ahead online, with prices on its booking page; 2027 tours start in April. Cream teas are served an hour before a tour and must be booked. Tours are not suitable for children, and dogs other than assistance dogs are not allowed.

Lunch and early afternoon

Yorkshire Heart Vineyard & Brewery

The guided vineyard tour with a tasting is from £30 and takes about an hour and a half, booked on the online calendar. If you would rather sit down, the self-guided cellar door tastings are £18.95 for three wines or £25.95 for six, both with nibbles, Tuesday to Sunday and booked ahead. The Winehouse Café opens 9.30am to 5pm on Saturdays, and dogs are welcome.

Late afternoon and evening

Dunesforde Vineyard

The terrace and wine bar open on Fridays and Saturdays from 12pm to 8pm, with sharing platters you pre-order online; booking a table is recommended. Tours with a tutored tasting are booked online: £29 with the still wines or £39 with still and sparkling. The £95 Grand Tasting with a food platter is for six or more and is arranged by phone or email.

Book ahead

Food: Lunch at Yorkshire Heart’s Winehouse Café, then pre-ordered platters on the Dunesforde terrace. The Alice Hawthorn in Nun Monkton serves lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday and also has rooms.

Getting between them: About 30 miles and 45 minutes to an hour from Westow to Nun Monkton; then about 10 miles and 20 minutes to Upper Dunsforth, and about 30 minutes back to York.

In winter

Yorkshire Heart’s café and cellar door stay open Tuesday to Saturday all winter (closed on Sundays from November to Easter), the Laurel Pantry serves lunch Tuesday to Friday, and Little Wold opens on Fridays and Sundays apart from a break over Christmas and New Year. Ryedale’s regular tours stop at the end of October, but the colder months bring evening events, such as Little Wold’s wine and cheese evenings, Laurel Vines’ Wine Club Wednesdays and Dunesforde’s Christmas fairs on 28 and 29 November 2026.

Tips

  • Friday is the only day when both East Yorkshire vineyards are open; Laurel Vines’ café is closed at weekends and Little Wold’s tasting room opens only on Fridays and Sundays.
  • Book tours before you travel: most run on set dates and the popular ones sell out, and Little Wold does not let you change a booked date.
  • Dunesforde’s terrace is the only stop open into the evening (until 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays), so put it last.
  • Mobile signal is patchy around Nun Monkton, so book a return taxi from Hammerton or York before you go.
  • Dogs are welcome at Laurel Vines, Little Wold and Yorkshire Heart, but not on Ryedale’s tours.

Where to stay

Yorkshire Heart has camping next to the vines from 18 April to 31 October and a glamping cabin from May to October, and Ryedale Vineyards offers bed and breakfast on selected summer Fridays and Saturdays, which sells out quickly. Otherwise look in York for the second night, and in Beverley or Malton for a quieter base.

Questions people ask

Can I visit Yorkshire vineyards on a Sunday?

Yes, but fewer are open. Little Wold’s tasting room opens on Sundays from 11am to 4pm, and Yorkshire Heart’s café opens on Sundays from Easter to October. Laurel Vines’ café and Dunesforde’s wine bar are closed on Sundays, and Ryedale’s tours run mostly on Fridays and Saturdays.

Do I need to book Yorkshire vineyard tours?

Yes. Tours at Dunesforde, Yorkshire Heart, Little Wold and Ryedale are all booked ahead online, mostly on set dates. You can drop in at the Laurel Pantry and Little Wold’s tasting room, though a table booking helps at busy times.

Can I do a Yorkshire vineyard trip without a car?

Partly. Hammerton station is about 3 miles from Yorkshire Heart and Malton about 7 miles from Ryedale, but there is no public transport to the vineyards and no footpath to Yorkshire Heart, so you need to pre-book taxis both ways.

How much does a Yorkshire vineyard tour cost?

Expect £27 to £39 a head for a guided tour with a tasting: £27 at Little Wold, from £30 at Yorkshire Heart and £29 or £39 at Dunesforde. Seated tastings without a tour start at £18.95 at Yorkshire Heart and £20 at Little Wold.

Are Yorkshire vineyards open in winter?

Some are. Yorkshire Heart, the Laurel Pantry and Little Wold’s tasting room stay open through the winter on their usual weekdays, but Ryedale’s tours stop at the end of October and restart in April.
