English wine gifts: vineyard tours and vouchers

A vineyard visit makes a better present than another bottle: a day out, a tasting with the people who made the wine, and usually lunch. Here are the vouchers and tours we would give, by region.

The short version

  • Under £50: a tour and tasting voucher at Tinwood (£21 a head), Bolney (from £30) or Hambledon (£35).
  • A proper day out: a tour from London with the travel, two or three vineyards and lunch included, so nobody has to drive.
  • When you cannot decide: an open voucher from Rathfinny or Denbies, which they can spend on a tour, a meal or a night at the estate.
  • Last minute: Chapel Down, Denbies and Nyetimber send their vouchers by email.
  • Prefer a bottle? See the English wines we would buy, from Nyetimber to the smaller estates.

Prices and terms checked against each seller’s own website in October 2026. They change, so check before you buy.

Vineyard tour vouchers, by region

Each of these is a visit to the vineyard itself, with a tasting. They suit someone who is happy to choose a date and make their own way there.

Kent

Tour and tasting at Chapel Down

Tenterden, Kent · From £40 a head

A guided tour of the vineyard and winery with a tutored tasting, at one of England’s biggest producers. Vouchers for a cheese and wine pairing or lunch at The Swan, its restaurant, cost more.

Good to know Chapel Down sends its vouchers by email, so they work as a last-minute present.

For more Kent ideas, including tastings under £30 at smaller estates, see the gift guide on our sister site, Kent Wine Tours.

Sussex

A Rathfinny estate voucher

Alfriston, East Sussex · Any amount from £10 to £1,000

An open voucher that covers a tour and tasting, a meal, a night in the Flint Barns or wine from the cellar door, so they choose how to spend it. Tours take about an hour and three quarters with a tutored tasting.

Bolney Wine Estate experience

Bolney, West Sussex · Tours from £30

A wine pairing tour and tasting (£30) or the longer Bolney Experience (£60), or a money voucher from £10 that also works in the café, the restaurant and the shop. Bolney is a few minutes off the A23, so it is an easy trip from Brighton or London.

Tour and tasting at Tinwood

Halnaker, near Chichester · £21 a head

A tour of a sparkling wine estate under the South Downs, with a tasting, in about an hour and a half. One of the best-value vineyard vouchers we know of.

Good to know Valid for a year.

Nyetimber gift card

West Sussex · £100, £150 or £250

For someone who would rather choose their own: a gift card for Nyetimber, one of England’s best-known sparkling wine producers. It can go on bottles, cases or one of the estate’s visitor experiences, which run on set dates rather than every day.

Good to know Sent by email, on a date you choose. Valid for 12 months, and only at nyetimber.com.

Surrey

Denbies experience voucher

Dorking, Surrey · Set experiences or any amount

Vouchers for tours, tastings, meals and a night at the estate’s own vineyard hotel, as a set experience or an open amount. Dorking is on the railway from London, so nobody has to drive home.

Good to know Sent as e-vouchers.

Hampshire

Tour and tasting at Hambledon

Hambledon, Hampshire · £35 a head

A two-hour tour and tasting at the estate often called England’s oldest commercial vineyard, first planted in 1952 in the chalk of the South Downs.

Good to know The voucher is valid for twelve months and visitors must be 18 or over. Through October the vineyard and winery are closed for harvest, so a tour booked then becomes a seated tasting.

Tour and tasting at Hattingley Valley

Alresford, Hampshire · £60 for two

A two-hour tour of one of Hampshire’s best-known sparkling wine makers, with a tasting of four wines.

Good to know Tours run Friday to Sunday and are paused for harvest until 23 October 2026. The retailer voucher is valid for twelve months.

A day out with everything included

If you know their diary, a dated tour is a bigger present than a voucher: two or three vineyards, tastings, lunch and the travel.

Leaving from London

See every tour that starts in London on our wine tours from London page.

Without leaving London

For someone who would rather not travel, a tasting of English sparkling wine in the city.

A night at the vineyard

A tasting that ends with dinner and bed rather than a drive home.

  • Rathfinny, Alfriston: ten rooms in the Flint Barns, and a Rathfinny voucher can pay for a stay.
  • Denbies, Dorking: a hotel on the estate, also bookable with a Denbies voucher.
  • Tinwood, near Chichester: lodges among the vines.
  • Tillingham, near Rye: rooms in a converted hop barn, with breakfast.

More places to stay are listed in our vineyard directory, county by county.

Before you buy

  • Validity: most vouchers last 12 months, but Hambledon’s last six, so a Christmas voucher there needs using by early summer.
  • Season: some smaller vineyards run tours only from spring to autumn. Chapel Down and Rathfinny run them all year.
  • Age: tastings are for over-18s, so for a family present check what the vineyard offers children.
  • Getting there: a voucher covers the visit, not the travel, and many vineyards are a taxi ride from the station. Our vineyard directory says how to reach each one. For travel included, choose a day out from London.
  • Email or post: email vouchers arrive straight away. To wrap one, order a posted voucher well before the last Christmas posting dates.

Questions people ask

Can I buy a vineyard tour voucher at the last minute?

Yes. Chapel Down, Denbies and Nyetimber send their vouchers by email, and Nyetimber lets you choose the date it arrives, so it can land on the day itself.

What can I give someone who would rather not visit?

A gift card for a vineyard’s own shop, such as Nyetimber’s, lets them choose their own bottles. Rathfinny’s open voucher can also be spent on wine from the cellar door. Or send a bottle: see the English wines we would buy.
