Visiting Exton Park
Exton Park makes sparkling wine from a single 60-acre chalk vineyard in the Meon Valley, and blends most of it from a library of reserve wines going back to 2011. Visits are by booked tour only, mostly on Friday mornings from March to October, so plan around that.

About Exton Park
Malcolm Isaac MBE spent his career in UK farming before he turned to wine, and saw what the chalk at Exton could do. Exton Park has made sparkling wine since 2009, all of it from one 60-acre vineyard on the estate, grown and made on site. The top vintage wine, Cuvée M. Isaac, carries his name.
Corinne Seely joined in 2011, having worked at Domaine de Chevalier in Bordeaux, and is now consultant winemaker. The house idea she helped build is the Reserve Blend. Rather than chase each vintage, Exton keeps a library of reserve wines going back to 2011 and blends from it, so the wines stay consistent whatever the harvest. Vintage wines are kept for years the fruit is exceptional.
Exton says it was the first in the UK to experiment with ageing wine under the sea, and an early producer of rosé made purely from Pinot Meunier. It also claims some of the longest lees-ageing in the country. The estate was a founding member of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, and solar panels cover much of its energy use.
The wines
Start with the Reserve Blends, which are the house style: RB|32 Brut, RB|23 Rosé, RB|28 Blanc de Noirs, RB|45 Blanc de Blancs and a Demi Sec. The RB|45 Blanc de Blancs is the one we’d take home. Above those sit the Limited Releases, made only in the best years: vintage Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs, the Pinot Meunier Rosé Plot 4, and Cuvée M. Isaac. The 60 Above & 60 Below pack, a 2014 Blanc de Noirs, is where the sea-aged wine comes in. Where to buy them.
Tours and tastings at Exton Park
This is a private estate with no cellar door hours, so you only get in on a tour. The Friday tour is the reliable one, and it only runs from March to October, which rules out a winter visit unless you arrange a private tour. We’d go on a Friday in September or October, close to harvest, when the winery is busiest. Everything ends up in Exton Hall, the estate’s events building, which has two sun terraces and a tasting room on the lower floor. Wine can be bought online if you want more than you can carry.

Getting there
The vineyard is on Allens Farm Lane in Exton, a small village in the Meon Valley, and you will want a car or a pre-booked taxi. The estate gives no directions or nearest station on its site, so ask when you book.
Make a day of it
The Shoe in Exton is the village pub. Beacon Hill National Nature Reserve is a steep climb from the village, with views to the Solent and the Isle of Wight on a clear day, on a six-mile circular walk. The South Downs Way also passes through Exton on its way from Winchester. Hambledon Vineyard is a short drive south, so the two make a natural Meon Valley pair.

Questions people ask
Can I visit in winter?
Not on a public tour, which runs from March to October. Ask the estate about a private tour.
Can I just turn up and buy wine?
Exton Park doesn’t publish shop hours, and visits are by booked tour, so don’t count on it. The full range is sold online.
