Visiting Oxney Organic Estate

Oxney is a certified organic vineyard of 35 acres at Beckley, near Rye, and calls itself the leading single-estate producer of English organic wine. You can drop in for a wine flight most weekdays, but the summer Saturday tours are the reason to come.

About Oxney Organic

Kristin Syltevik and Paul Dobson set up Oxney in 2012 on land that was already farmed organically, planting the vineyard in stages from 2012 to 2018. It now has 35 acres of vines on free-draining sand and silt loam, certified organic by the Soil Association, and the wines are made in a converted barn on the estate. Kristin is the owner and winemaker. The estate counts 2025 as its 11th harvest.

The wines

The Classic 2019 is the wine to try first, the blend that shows what the estate does. After that the Blanc de Blancs, made in both 2019 and 2022, is the step up, and the Pinot Noir Rosé 2022 is the pick for rosé drinkers. The Non Vintage Brut and Estate Rosé NV are the cheaper sparkling wines, and the still range includes a Chardonnay, a rosé and a Pinot Noir called Woodhouse Pinot. Where to buy them.

Tours and tastings at Oxney Organic

The shop and tasting room at Hobbs Lane are where everything happens. In summer you sit under a canvas top beside the meadow with a glass and a cheese or charcuterie board, and in winter the tastings move indoors. A wine flight is the easy option and needs no booking, but a tour or tasting does, and Oxney asks you to arrive on time because it cannot hold the start. Cancellations are refunded only with four weeks’ notice, though bookings can be moved within the season with the same notice. There is parking at the vineyard. The estate sleeps 28 in all, split between the vineyard, where there is the five-bedroom Vineyard House and two shepherd’s huts, and The Oxney Barns, across the River Rother in Kent.
