About this tour

A self-guided tasting at a vineyard cellar door in Nun Monkton, a village about 20 minutes' drive from York. You choose between the Classic tasting, three 50ml glasses of red, white and rosé, and the Signature tasting, six 50ml glasses across the range. Either comes with three nibbles chosen from cheese, meats, crackers, olives and chocolate.

There is no time limit once you are seated, and the vineyard view makes it a pleasant stop on the way between York and Harrogate. Tastings run from Tuesday to Sunday.

Nobody guides you through the wines, and there is no tour of the vines with this booking. You will need a car or taxi to get there.

Best for: visitors to York who want a relaxed glass of Yorkshire wine at the vineyard without a formal tour.

Planning your visit

The tasting is at Yorkshire Heart, a family-run vineyard and brewery on Pool Lane in Nun Monkton, just off the A59 between York and Harrogate. It started with 35 vines in 2000 and now has about 29,000, and the brewery is just round the corner.

There is plenty of free parking. Without a car, the nearest station is Hammerton, a short taxi ride away; the vineyard suggests booking your taxi home in advance, as phone signal there can be patchy.

The Winehouse Café on site welcomes walkers and dogs, and the vineyard offers a light lunch platter or a Yorkshire afternoon tea to go with a tasting. If you want to see the vines with a guide, its vineyard tour and tasting is a separate booking, and there is a brewery tour too. Camping and glamping are available for a longer stay.
